Keiko Kato Designs
Beautiful, colourful designs inspired by traditional kimono
After specialising in kimono-making at university in Tokyo, Keiko Kato went to fashion college and studied both hand-knitting and machine knitting, where she excelled at colour coordination, especially bright colours.
Keiko then worked for a ladies knitwear company as a designer, an experience which made her realise what she wanted to make. She then started her own business making knitwear and accessories in Japan (under my Keiko Kato Original label).
After moving to London, Keiko incorporated her love and knowledge of Japanese traditional fabrics into new ranges of women's bags and accessories (under her Keiko Kato London label). She also set up a children's clothes brand (under her ShuShu label) after friends and customers asked her to make things for their children with the same mix of colourful Japanese and Western materials she was using for womenswear.
Keiko had her own stall in Spitalfields Market and Up Market in East London for 10 years. Now, she has opened her shop on Etsy and sells online and at specialist markets and one-off events (such as Hyper Japan!) in London.
