On both Saturday and Sunday, the HYPER JAPAN catwalk will showcase a variety of Sweet/Ama Lolita fashion. This sweet substyle of Lolita fashion is generally seen as the most popular. Scarlett, HYPER JAPAN’s Kawaii star of the year, has undoubtedly lived up to the cute and fun personality she portrayed on stage last year and she will be opening both catwalks this year.

The Sweet Lolita model’s favourite brands include Angelic Pretty, Baby, the stars shine bright!, 6% DokiDoki and Moi-meme-moitie.

When it comes to style and inspiration, their fashion icons are Misako Aoki, Kanon Wakeshima, Mameko, Pixie_late, Hizaki (Versailles) and Vivienne Westwood.

Sweet Lolita brings out the innocence and playfulness of childhood and evokes the princess in you. Coupled with nostalgic childhood themed prints such as candy, castles and carnivals and a cupcake shaped skirt silhouette, it’s no wonder Sweet Lolita looks the most magical, cute and fun out of the three major sub-styles which are Sweet, Gothic and Classic! Everything else, from head-bows to mini hats, are accessories that you can experiment and play with to complete the look.

Many people can be quite self conscious when wearing Lolita because it’s something quite different than what people are used to seeing on the high street. But the Frills & Frolics meet-up group provides both Lolitas and Lolita fashion enthusiasts a chance to get together and enjoy the fashion on a regular basis. These meets are also helpful for beginners as they learn from other friendly Lolitas about coordination, where to shop and other useful tips they’ve got up their sleeves!
