HYPER JAPAN is delighted to announce that JaruJaru, one of Japan's top Japanese comedy duos, will be performing live at HYPER JAPAN on Friday 22nd July!

JaruJaru are a hugely popular, multi-award winning young manzai comedy duo, made up of Junpei Goto on the left and Shusuke Fukutoku on the right. JaruJaru were formed in April 2004, and the pair were soon snapped up by Yoshimoto Kogyo, Japan's top entertainment company. 

Today, JaruJaru regularly perform at 5up Yoshimoto, a comedy theatre in Osaka. They also make regular appearances on various TV shows and radio stations.

This is the second time that JaruJaru have appeared in London: they previously visited the city to make a one night only appearance at Lost Theatre, the DVD of which is now available in Japan.

What is Manzai?

Manzai is the traditional style of stand-up comedy in Japanese culture. It is normally performed by two members, the straight man, or 'tsukkomi', and the funny man, or 'boke'. Manzai is characterised by jokes being told very fast. Most of the jokes are about mutual misunderstandings, puns and gags.
Manzai has primarily developed in western Japan, particularly around Osaka. Many manzai comedians speak in Kansai-ben, which is the dialect of the Kansai region. Kansai-ben is quick, friendly, emotive and encourages the audience to laugh during performances.
Today, manzai is very popular both as TV entertainment and as live comedy theatre.
