"Kawaii Style" Japanese Street Fashion Show
HYPER Japan is a well known hub for Japanese street fashion fans in the UK. Although there are many different kinds of styles on show, the overarching idea for most outfits is to fit the Japanese idea of “kawaii.”
But what is kawaii? And how do you define it? In modern Japanese, the word kawaii means ‘cute,’ ‘adorable,’ or ‘loveable,’ however, in context of Japanese street fashion, it has also come to encompass the terms ‘cool,’ ‘stylish,’ and ‘lovely.
As such, the word kawaii can be applied to many different kinds of fashion style, including Sweet and Classic Lolita fashion, Wa- Lolita, Kawaii Kimono style, Gal, Pop-Kei (including fairy -kei), and Pastel Goth (a look often showcased by You Tube mega star Kyary Pamyu Pamyu).
Whilst the looks may be diverse, true kawaii style demonstrates innovation, stylistic flair, and dedication to impeccable outfit coordination. To really showcase and celebrate these different Japanese street fashion looks, HYPER JAPAN has conceived the "Kawaii Style" Japanese Street Fashion Show- and we are currently looking for UK girls to help us! For anyone interested in watching this very special show, the event will take place on Sunday 25 November, from 13:00-13:30.
