HYPER JAPAN 2012 Christmas

HYPER JAPAN 2013 will be full of fun opportunities to get a first-hand experience of Japanese tradition and culture! For a taste of what's in store this summer, here a look at the kinds of activities we had on offer at HYPER JAPAN 2012 Christmas.

1. Paper Sumo Game
Kids fought it out with paper sumo wrestlers at HYPER JAPAN! We prepared all the materials kids needed to colour and battle their very own sumos (refereeing strictly at parent’s discretion!).

2. Manga-style Drawing Workshop

Manga has become one of Japan’s most famous international exports, and continues to grow in popularity. Visitors who fancied trying their hand at this distinctive (and rather cute) style of illustration, came to our free workshop and let their creativity flow!

3. Igo

 Igo (also known as go) is one of the world’s most widely played board games.  This two player game was first developed almost 2000 years ago, and is still regarded as one of the most intellectually challenging games of all time. Visitors were urged to put down the console for a minute and see what all the fuss is about.

4. Calligraphy

In modern Japan, the ancient art of calligraphy has become something of a performance art. However, it’s also still an important part of education in Japan, and many Japanese first experience calligraphy when developing and improving their writing skills. The technique may look tricky, but with our on site expert guidance, visitors were creating beautiful works in no time!
